The dust mites that cause house dust mite allergy live in our midst
House dust mite allergy is a condition under which the human body
overreacts to an attack of dust mites. These tiny organisms live every
where within our vicinity and so anytime we are prone to an attack of
the same. No one is immune to these attacks and how they affect people
largely depends on how strong their immunity is. But again, not all
people are prone to an attack of house dust mite allergy as some
develop resistance to the mite over time. House dust mite allergy is
caused by the tiny dust mite and they reside everywhere in our areas
of living, including our beds.
Therefore, when we go to bed, considering that a normal human being
spends about a third of his day in bed, we may not be spared. House
dust mite allergy is caused when person breaths in the dust that is
full of protein particles that are secreted by the dust mites when
they excrete. What generally happens is that the mites secrete
proteins that dry up and get integrated into the normal dust. When we
breathe in this dust, we take in the protein secretions of the mites
that in turn irritate our nasal cavity and cause us irritation and
discomfort.
When these protein secretions get in touch with the skin of a
person who is over reactive to them, their bodie's defensive systems
is stimulated to produce antibodies which in turn trigger the
production of histamine. It is this element of histamine that most
people's systems react to. It causes swelling of the skin and the
appearing of spontaneous rashes all over the body. The bad thing is
that these dust mites are present, throughout the year and are not
seasonal like other allergens that come with a season and then they
go. If one is allergic to the house dust mites, then he/she might live
with the allergy all of their lives. Therefore, it would be wise to
take some stringent measures to avoid a recurrence of this allergy
because it might develop into acute asthma. Among the preventive
measures that one might take are:
-Washing rugs and mats at once in a week.
-Cleaning walls and polish the floor
-Avoiding stimulating factors like smoking
-Wash your bedding regularly
-Since the dust mites thrive in warm conditions, then expose them to cold and dry air and you will see the end of them.
-Avoid sprays as much as possible as these might trigger your asthmatic attacks that the house dust mite allergy might have started.
